Mar 2-8
We have been up to the usual...work, work, work. :) This particular weekend I was off from work, but Ed still had to finish part 2 of his first responder course for firefighting. So once again, Jack and I were on our own. What to do? I kept seeing signs for the "Melbourne Strawberry Festival." Upon further investigation I found that there were rides for kids, strawberry pancake breakfast, and face painting. We were in!
I went with my neighbor and friend Kareen, and her two kids Tristan and Aubrey. She has gone the last few years so she was my expert. Before Ed left that morning the one thing he requested was for me to bring back something "strawberry" like jam or whatever. We figured they would have everything made out of strawberries.
So we get there and start with the pancake breakfast. It was delicious and cheap! I think we got like 3 big pancakes covered with strawberries and whipped cream, choice of sausage or bacon, and an orange juice to drink. Mmmm. I had my coffee so I let Jack delve into the pancakes and I ate some of what was left over. It was more than enough for the two of us.
After breakfast we figured we had better do something entertaining for the kids so we went over to the area with bounce houses, slides, etc. It was awesome! The rides were super cheap and as long as there wasn't a line Jack could pretty much bounce around as long as he wanted. He bounced in one house so long that I felt bad and gave them more tickets. He loved it! I was a little nervous because there were bigger kids in there, but Jack didn't seem to care at all. He totally held his own and bounced his little heart out. We all know how much Jack likes to jump!
One of the houses had a ladder type thing and if you climbed to the top you could slide down. Once he figured it out he did it over, and over, and over. It was all very cute! They even had a little train that he rode (all by himself). He was in heaven! He pretty much thought it was the best place ever! After all the jumping and riding I figured he could slow down a bit so I decided to get his face painted. I hesitated because I know he is not even 2 and getting your face painted requires a kid to sit still for awhile. I just told myself, if he changes his mind in the middle of it and won't sit still we will just stop.
He surprised me. He sat still the whole time while the lady painted him into a tiger! It looked so cute!!!! He could NOT stop looking at himself in the mirror (or anything with a reflection. It was hilarious!
After the face painting we did a little shopping and what do you know...the Strawberry Festival did not sell any type of Strawberry Jam whatsoever. I thought to myself they have to have a strawberry pie...or strawberry shortcake. Nope. They only sold strawberries like they do at the store. Who cares? I was kind of disappointed in that. The only thing I found for Ed that he can't get anywhere else was some spicy mustard that a lady was selling. Poor thing. No strawberry jam. :(
It was still a ton of fun though! Jack had a blast!!!! It was a great day (would have been better with Daddy there, but still a great day).
